A curious thing has been happening this school year.

As the school year has built momentum toward the end of our first trimester, we all start to feel a bit overloaded. The wave of information we receive from school can feel like a flood at times.

Over the course of the first trimester, we’ve tried to bring you a little closer to the school through our #CACurious blog. In each of our CA Weekly newsletters, we’ve linked to a blog from a leader at Cary Academy that gives you an inside look into what we are working on.

A slice from the new CA Magazine coming soon!

It is likely that you’ve missed many of these stories. Who could blame you, the CA Weekly is full-up with great information about the school and it is easy to say “I’ll get to that later” … and then never do.

Let me take this opportunity to give you a recap and a chance to reconnect with these stories.

  • Jason Franklin, our director of diversity and inclusion, shared his experiences dropping into a class discussion about relevant current events.
  • Heather Clarkson, our upper school principal, recalls the time that a stranger asked her “Are you in charge of this group of kids.”
  • Michael Hayes, our visual and performing arts director, outlined some of the great performances that we have in store for this school year.
  • Marti Jenkins, our middle school principal, discussed how the school goes about orienting students at the beginning of a school year.
  • Denise Goodman, our director of admissions, thanked all the parents and students who serve as wonderful ambassadors for families considering CA.
  • Karen McKenzie, our director of technology and innovation, shared how the school is beginning exploration of virtual reality tools.
  • Kathleen Mason, our alumni coordinator, looked at the many paths of our CA alumni.
  • Martina Greene, our dean of faculty, shared the history of the development of our Portrait of a Graduate.
  • Cheryl Cotter, our director of service learning, went through the amazing list of service projects that have happened this fall.
  • Kevin Jones, our athletic director, discussed the many ways CA athletes are developing their character.
  • Debby Reichel, our director of business operations, shared the story behind the start of our amazing Holiday Shoppe.

That’s a big list! As we head into a well-deserved break, perhaps you will find time to explore some of these blogs and learn more about what is behind the scenes at CA. We will be back at it in the new trimester with a new series of #CACurious blogs and stories written by our student team of communications interns. Their work contributed mightily to our new print magazine, which will land in mailboxes by the end of the month.
